About

The work exhibited comprises a wide diversity of styles and subject matter within representational painting. These artists stand out for their imagination and distinctive personal approach. All reflect Gallery Henoch's commitment to an art based on individual, subjective style and sensibility.

George Henoch Shechtman, Director of Gallery Henoch, has been a New York City art dealer since 1966. A graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Art History, Mr. Shechtman opened Christopher Street Gallery in Greenwich Village in 1966. In the early 70's the gallery moved to Madison Avenue and became known as Christopher Gallery. When the art scene shifted its focus to Soho, Mr. Shechtman opened Gallery Henoch on Wooster Street in 1982. With the emergence of Chelsea as the art center of New York, the gallery moved to 25th Street in the Fall of 2000.

A Resting Himalayan Rabbit, 2017 - Patricia Traub

Patricia Traub A Resting Himalayan Rabbit, 2017
The pieces begin with a series of sketches completed from life. Once Traub finalizes the pose of the animal and the notations on the hair, anatomy and other details are complete; she begins work on a panel or piece of linen in the studio. The picture evolves over a span of time ranging from six weeks to six months. The painting employs as many as twenty to thirty layers of glazed paint which build up to the rich color and nuanced details, an application style that is called indirect painting. The technique is highly derivative of that often employed by the Flemish painters of the 17th Century, notable among these artists is Vermeer and Van Eyck among many others.

  • Daniel Greene

Biography : At 80 years old, Daniel Greene has influenced a generation of American painters. His virtuosity is expressed in the range of his subject matter and in the brilliance of his technique. The series of paintings in this exhibition grows out of his ongoing interest in the interface of art and life. Also included in this exhibition will be paintings of New York’s iconic underground mosaics found in the century old subway system. Greene’s work hangs in over 700 public and private collections, including the Clinton Presidential Library and the F.D.R. Memorial Library. Recognition from leading organizations for his work includes awards and honors from The Pastel Society of America, which elected Greene to the Pastel Hall of Fame—the first living artist so honored—as well as from The Oil Painters of America Society, which named him to the group’s Hall of Fame.  American Artist Magazine honored Greene with the publication’s first lifetime achievement award in the category of oil painting. Greene was also presented with the John Singer Sargent award from the American Society of Portrait Artists for “lifelong dedication to the achievement of excellence in portraiture.”  More recently, Greene was awarded medals from the Portrait Society of America and from The Artists Fellowship in New York City.
