Detailed Description : Kim Moung-Jin is one of Korea's rising contemporary young artists. He studied in Daegu Art University in Korea and has his solo exhibition in Galerie GAIA, Seoul, Korea. He participated in many prestigious art fair, including Art Toronto in 2013, Houston Fine Art Fair in 2013, Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong in 2014, Asia Contemporary Art Show Hong Kong in 2012~2014, and KIAF in 2013. Especially to a young artist, graffiti language may be a useful tool to draw out the inner landscape reflected on his perspective to the world of his life. The intuitive abstract objects and the configurations in his paintings are very visual and graphic with artistic expression and integration. Conceptual transformation of his conscious or subconscious gestures into various images and colors are seems to attract into a multi-plotted story telling. In the paintings of Kim Myoung-Jin, the boundaries between drawing, graffiti, and illustration are dismantled. They are just full of the traces of ‘the drawing’... His drawings are very unique. They are fantastic, bizarre, and provocative. And yet, they fill the screen with unusual energy and excitement, and they boldly show the cheerful spirit of the raw image itself. They seem to be created by intuition... The subconscious is our forgotten consciousness. The painting of Myoung-Jin Kim is a process to express his subconscious. He enjoys it and gladly puts it in action. As if someone speaks in tongues, he tries to visualize everything that’s inside and effuses them. Therefore, his paintings would be emission or ejaculation...

Detailed Description : He is one of the representative artists of Korean monochrome art. His repetitive action and progression towards two-dimensional surfaces show a reversion to painterly qualities in connection to the aesthetics of monochromatic painting. His monochromatic style is clearly different from his signature expressions. The various tones of his canvas contrast with fixed tones of monochrome, and traces of different color cover the entire canvas, producing richly colored pieces. In particular, the layers of paint on canvas bring back the spirit of ancient artists. They meet living ones, the same way that the outer structure and the fine textures become one within the canvas. The most recent works of Kim Tae-Ho were developed around 2000, and they focus on brush strokes and the application of painted color. Regarding the process, he first draws interwoven lines. He creates a fixed rhythm, and after building up twenty layers of paint, he then scrapes away the dense accumulation of paint. Color that is hidden beneath rhythmically comes alive within the structure. Countless visual spaces are constructed within the overlapping grid formation; each cell is comparable to a beehive, producing its own life in the realm of painting.

Detailed Description : Kwak Seung-Yong(1969~) is one of Korea's widely recognized contemporary artists. He studied in Paris VIII University (M.P.A), and he was invited twice by ‘Kumho Museum’ (Asiana Group, Seoul, Korea). His paintings also have been sold through Macao Auction (Hong Kong) and Larasati Auction (Singapore). Kwak Seung-Yong pursues his own form and narration with the old-fashioned genres of portrait. The ‘Old future’ series works take figurative form as a subject, yet in actuality they visualize inherent aspects of figures that go beyond a mere sensual resemblance. As a result of numerous and repeated experiments at depicting the same person, these paintings show all kinds of media, alluding to a variety of emotional textures which are seen and unseen within a portrait. This is done to reveal the invisible, to reveal such things as our unconscious ego, alter-ego, and desires. It is an effort to utilize visible forms to express our basic instincts. In Old Future, Kwak overlays nudes of Western girls and traditional Korean suits. The uncompromising combination of grey-tone bodies and the exuberant colors of the Hanbok evokes feelings of confusion and the loss of identity. The nudes of Western girls function here as a type of fantasy, while the Hanbok belongs to the root or, it might be said, traditional reality. Fantasy and reality collide in ordinary circumstances and often fantasy is stronger than reality. The traditional, fantasy leads to reality with its creative power; fantasy is reproduced over and over, and eroticism or pornography is suggested as the standard of beauty.

Detailed Description : Kwon Oh-Hoon is one of Korea's most widely recognized contemporary sculptors who developed his unique well known designs of pottery, well-being environmental ceramics and monument sculptures, and wall paintings. His works of linear structures present dynamic visual effects in an art form and practicality of thin and light-weight ceramic ware. Based on his philosophical process regarding art, he has been experimenting with minimalistic compositions featuring geometric and static structures and three-dimensional illusion of orderly patterns. His works of minimalism involves a modular method and mathematical process at the same time. In this method, he stacks up thin boards to create subtle patterns of creases and folds and shape the primary form, and then mounts dynamic geometric shapes to create a new illusion. The completed form accompanies effects of light and shadow and leads the viewers into an illusionary state. The most notable is the evolution of structure. While he adheres to his signature design elements of orderly patterns of lines, curves, cubes, gloves, and other geometric shapes, the spatial effect and shading are presented in a more dynamic manner, by boldly removing the sides from perpendicular hexahedrons and adding free-forms and expanded lines. Through this experimental spirit, the artist intends to escape from reasoning of direct and symmetrical structure and materialize the freedom of perception. He has held over 60 solo & group exhibitions in China, Japan, France, USA, Italy, England, and Korea. His works are collected by Victoria and Albert Museum (England), National Museum of Contemporary Art (Korea), Ceramic Library at Aichi Prefectural University (Japan), and so on.

Detailed Description : Yoo Sun Tai is one of Korea's most widely recognized contemporary artists. While studying in Paris for many years (PH.D), the artist developed his now well-known style of three-dimensional painting. Yoo is obsessed with objects such as book, typewriter, ladder, bottle, bicycling man, bronze, apple, and other items. He takes such items as a means of metaphors of life elements which meanings depend on personal imagination or interpretation. So, his painting looks like some surreal but very meditative and poetic. In his painting, he also uses the Korean letter as a kind of metaphoric language to give his painting some texture as well as some meaning. After painting, he wrote Korean letters (means ‘words’ in English) over the whole canvas. Such a uniqueness of his painting gets good reputation from the public as well as critics. He has held over 40 solo exhibitions in Paris, New York, Korea, and Singapore, and he participated in many prestigious art fairs such as Art Toronto, Houston Fine Art Fair, LA Art Show, Scope Basel, Art Asia Miami, Scope New York, Korea International Art Fair and so on. His works are collected by VODKA Collection(Stockholm, Sweden), Foundation Deutsch(Lausanne, Switzerland), Art Sunjae Museum(Seoul, Korea), the Seoul Ministry of Finance and Economy(Seoul, Korea), Samsung TESCO(Seoul, Korea), the National Museum of Contemporary Art(Gwancheon, Korea). His paintings were represented in the George Pompidou Center’s ‘Contemporary Artists’ Documentation’ in Paris. His paintings have been oftenly sold through Hong Kong Christie, New York Christie, and Hong Kong Sales.
