ASTRAL RAIN - Sergio CASCAVILLA

Sergio CASCAVILLA ASTRAL RAIN
The New Abstraction of the Future by Sergio Cascavilla
This is a project on the "new Italian abstraction". It has been absent for the past 30 years, the last signs of it being in the early 80s with Alessandro Mendini and his Memphis Group and it is no chance that he was recently exhibited together with Peter Halley in New York (at the Mary Boone Gallery).
Sergio Cascavilla's abstraction is a concentration of abstract energy projected into the future but with a stylistic Italian angle from the past, mixing and creating something completely new and disconcerting, by which you will be inescapably spellbound.

EUPHORIA - Steve SABELLA

Steve SABELLA EUPHORIA
Steve Sabella’s collage works, In Exile (2008), Euphoria (2010), Beyond Euphoria (2011) and Metamorphosis (2012), are representations of his shifting psychological states taking place during his journey from mental exile to liberation. In a global context, Sabella is giving a visual representation to a process that people who are victims of conflict must go through every day and people who suffer from living in a state of alienation. No matter the conflict’s location, the experience of alienation, isolation, and need to overcome is always present. Each collage is a compilation of fragments slowly brought together to make a whole, which mirrors the experiences of those who have lived through any kind of conflict.

Detailed Description : His work draws from the universe of biology, a research on the relationships between different organic forms, investigating on the mystery of existence. A painting technique that is affected in its times of execution by the environmental mutations, where cells and filaments materialize over fluid internal landscapes, giving us the perception of our being. The images dissolve loosing resemblance in order to become an insight in ourselves- Abstraction and ambiguity, like a dreamy representation of a real state in which the human being is nevertheless the main character.

Detailed Description : Steve Sabella is a Berlin based artist who uses photography and photographic installation as his principle modes of expression. Steve Sabella’s artworks have been collected by the British Museum in London, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, Ars Aevi museum in Sarajevo and leading collectors in the Middle East including The Samawi Collection, Cuadro Fine Art (Dubai), Salsali Private Museum (Dubai) and Barjeel Art Foundation (Sharjah).Sabella’s project Jerusalem In Exile explored the mental image Palestinians hold of Jerusalem and has gained international attention, leading to its production into a documentary film. Consequently, Sabella has been using photo collage as a visual form for the state of mind that results from living in 'mental exile’ and the transcendence of this state towards Independence (2013). Sabella’s artworks and life have triggered much media attention. He was featured on IkonoTV as the 'Artist of the Month' in 2011 and 2013. Sabella was invited as a speaker for TEDx Marrakech in 2012. A monograph is currently being prepared in collaboration with the Akademie der Künste and Hatje Cantz in Berlin, that will review his life and artistic career from the early 1990s.
