About

Lucía Mendoza is a contemporary art gallery based in Madrid since 2014.

We focus on our concern for the cultural education of individuals from school age and the identification of the room as a meeting point for an audience interested in any aspect of artistic activity. In order to promote both aspects, we include in our program courses and workshops for children directly related to the exhibitions it hosts.

The gallery Lucía Mendoza develops the curating of exhibitions that encourage the interest and divulge the knowledge about the artists we represents and their work. It proposes individual exhibitions, treated in the form of retrospectives or focused on highlighting a specific moment in the artistic evolution of an author or a particular aspect of his work; or collective shows with the intention of carrying out an exercise of intellectual reflection around a concept whose research, whose development - always raised from the different perspectives supported by the different artists and disciplines - may give rise to new intentions and/or artistic conclusions. In order to achieve greater divulgation we edit catalogs of all the individual exhibitions, catalogs that have been included by request of its director, Mr. Kenneth Soehner, in the Thomas J. Watson Central Research Library of the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

The trajectory of the gallery includes in its program the participation in important fairs such as the national Estampa or Marbella Art Fair, and the international Art Miami Context or Art New York Context in whose programs it is included since 2015. In 2018 it is also incorporated into Drawing Room, Madrid. The gallery Lucía Mendoza is a member of the National Consorcio de galerías of Spain and to the association of galleries of Madrid, Arte_Madrid.

Lucía Mendoza is an associate of the IAC (Institute of Contemporary Art) and vice president of the Madrid delegation.

  • Fernando Cuétara  (+)

Exhibition : 2016 Harmony, Centro Cultural Español Miami, USA 2015 Materna y Herencia Gallery, Madrid, Spain 2014 Auria, Materna y Herencia Gallery, Madrid, Spain 2013 Recent Works, Adolfo Suárez International Airport, Madrid, Spain 2012 Glow, Ricart Gallery, Miami, USA There is always a way, Alcobendas Art Center, Madrid, Spain 2011 Back to basics, Biondetta Art Gallery, Madrid, Spain Organic, Ricart Gallery, Miami, USA 2010 Obras Recientes, Jorge Ontiveros Gallery, Madrid, Spain Castilla La Mancha Museum of Contemporary Art, Spain Fair Dearte, Palacio de Congresos, Madrid, Spain 2009 Abundance, Biondetta Art Gallery, Madrid, Spain

Detailed Description : Cuétara uses the bare canvas, through their manipulation and observation of their specific qualities, not to cover it with pigment or images, but to express itself. The fabric, the folding and light are the keys to its language. To Cuétara the crease, it is in itself a key element in the construction and composition of his paintings. It is more-much more than just a formal appearl, represents above all a space of possibilities:that of accommodating both the matter and soul, and above all the shapping, through the folds and wrinkles of the fabrics, the permanence of the artist in his own work. The gap, the cavity which is raises, becomes the place where the desire to endure in the memory of time is completed. The eternal desire of the creator.

Content, material and representation are manifold, improvisation is confronted with concepts.

Detailed Description : Christian Voigt works with large-format cameras, both digital and analogue. He experiments with new camera techniques and makes the best use of the digital medium. In the museum edition, his large-format pictures can measure as much as eight metres in width. But his strictly limited editions also come in sizes which customers and collectors can hang on walls of more modest sizes. Voigt has developed a language capable of telling new stories. He continually works to refine a pictorial idiom, the stories he wants to tell, the feelings he convey. This is visible in his pictures; Landscape and architecture are his principal areas of interest, but he also does portraits and nudes. The travels associated with his projects and places call for concentration, for the ability to get to grips with people, with their history and their religion. His series on the vanished architecture of the past and its appearance in our own times come across just as vividly as the craziness of today’s societies that his images depict.
