Detailed Description : I have travelled the world, from my native Belarus to Asia, the Americas, and other parts of Europe. I have had the great fortune to interact with people from around the globe and absorb its many cultures. What I wish to show in my new Earth series is that our planet itself is a work of art---a kaleidoscope of colors, a patchwork of patterns; an interconnected sphere without beginning or end. Viewing it from space, using Google images, I want this collection to showcase this amazing entity, in order that we may appreciate and ultimately save it. We sometimes need a new perspective. I want people to see the wonder of the world from above; perhaps as an eagle sees it from a mountain aerie, a pilot from the cabin of his airplane or the astronaut from the surface of the moon. A mufti-hued orb spinning among thousands of other stars, yet unique. While my earlier series zoomed in on the tight confines of urban life in our metropolises--connecting people to the intimacy of their living spaces--the Earth series zooms out, taking the long view of our home from the skies above. My mixed-media creations radiate the colors of each continent; I try to bring the textures of the planet alive, so that you can feel the heat of the volcanoes, the parched thirst of the massive deserts, the cool blues of our all-encompassing oceans. Some parts are smooth, and some are rough and rugged. Although we humans may feel like disconnected, independent fragments, Earth reminds us that we are all united on this place: notes within a larger symphony of life. No different from the massive whale in the ocean or the tiniest needle of a pine tree. There is no way out; to save ourselves we must save our home.

  • Inna Timokhina  (+)

Biography : Inna Timokhina (aka INKA) is an international artist and a scientist, who spent her formative years in the New York City. She now lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland. She received a formal education in visual arts in Russia and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Cornell University. INKA’s artistic work has been vividly described in an article that appeared in the Aesthetica Magazine in May 2014: “Mythical archetypes and molecular science find common ground in the work of Inna Timokhina, an artist-scientist with Siberian gypsy roots. INKA’s art explores the hidden patterns and energies behind our familiar world, emerging from the viewpoints of microscopic and molecular images of life and from esoteric dreamworlds of the deep psyche. Using inspiration from her work as a molecular biologist, INKA’s paintings depict unusual and dream-like scenes that appear to be in flux and evolving in unexpected and fantastic ways. As one of her collectors noted: ‘Depending on the mood and the viewpoint of the viewer, INKA’s paintings can trigger different and changing imaginations and emotions’. The energetic aspects of Inna’s art, sometimes enhanced with actual light sources and at other times mimicking an ‘infrared’ point of view, like in night vision, contribute to this effect. This alternative interpretation of familiar images has created the notion of ‘phantasmagoric dreamworld images’.” Artists Statement My art is a quest of identifying and visualizing hidden energies behind familiar processes or objects, with particular focus on amplifying positive energies. I usually start with a small sketch, where a portrait, landscape or abstraction has a unique “energy signature”. Energy can manifest itself, for example, as a wave pattern, glowing light or accelerating particles, and my “energy signatures” usually contain these elements. After the initial “energy signature” is captured, I begin the innovative process of “energy amplification”,

  • Olga Kosheleva  (+)

Biography : Artist's Statement Olga Kosheleva was born in the Ukraine just months after the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe occurred. More than most, she is aware of the fragile balance between the earth’s ecosystems and humanity’s impact upon them. She began with acrylic and oil-based painting on canvas, but more recently broadened her choice of media to sculpture and other objects. Her work asks us to examine our relationship with the natural world through different lenses—quite literally. In her newest collections, “Connection” and “Virtual or Real?” by painting her creations onto large-scale (2-meter) sunglasses, she invites us to view the beauty of our surroundings through the prism of art. A new way of seeing, that may give us perspective and appreciation for our planet. “We should look at the world through art,” she says. “It has the power to change our lives.” Olga’s themes are deep—“Plastic All Around” addresses our creation/consumption culture which harms many things---but playful and positive: for example, the crocodiles and shrimp which decorate the lenses of “Survival,” are, on closer examination, composed of smaller human figures. We are all one, this says: we are in this together. Similarly, “Global Warming” shows melting ice caps on one lens, while human faces with thermometer-noses react on the opposite lens. Olga says, “Everyone looking at my artwork should ask: ‘What can I do to have an impact, and improve the planet’s health?” Certainly, the colorful sunglasses owe an artistic debt to the pop-art explosion of the Sixties, but at the same time bring it into a new frame of reference for a new century, retaining the joie de vivre of Pop while adressing the gravitas of global survival. Her playfulness extends to other of her art, like the “Art that Moves” series, a whimsical collection of painted baths, bicycles, and chairs. Like “Virtual or Real,” these pieces insert us into the art and challenge us to liv
