  • Victor Butler  (+)

Biography : VICTOR BUTLER (born 1964) creates multilayered paintings which take us on a surrealistic journey where the more you look, the more you see. His works, deeply steeped in mathematical and scientific applications, examine the construct of man as the nucleus of his environment, taking apart the reciprocal relationship and effect one has on the other. A self taught artist, Victor Butler has over 25 years of studio practice. His works have been exhibited internationally including in Canada, England, France and the United States. He studied medicine and has worked at the cutting edge of auto mechanics, information technology, and furniture design. His impressive painting technique and deeply philosophical approach to life is evident in his surrealist style and subject matter. His works are in important international corporate and private collections.

Biography : SANAA GATEJA (born 1950) is a Ugandan, multi-disciplinary artist who studied as a goldsmith in London and whose works are a wonderful combination of installation, tapestry, and sculpture. Heavily influenced by the potters, blacksmiths, and weavers of baskets in his village where he grew up, Sanaa is a self-taught visual artist who creates intricate works which reference indigenous art practices like weaving and stitching. A social commentator, Sanaa works with bark cloth, paper, raffia, beads, wood, and banana fiber to construct large textured artworks that respond to the subject of nature and materiality. Sanaa has showcased at FNB Johannesburg Art Fair (2016, 2017, 2018), AKAA Art Fair, Paris (2016, 2017, 2018) and Art X Lagos (2018).

  • Olumide Onadipe  (+)

Biography : OLUMIDE ONADIPE (born 1982) is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose idiosyncratic sculptures are built using diverse media including plastics. Olumide presents sculptural works which are allusions to socio-political issues. But these physical commentaries on events, social customs, and malaises that affect Nigerian society are rarely explicit. In most cases, they vaguely suggest something through their form. In a few others, it is only the title of the work that opens the door to possible interpretations and readings by the viewer.  Olumide is fascinated by textures and environmental themes, and expresses this fascination through playful iterations. He studied arts and education at the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the University of Lagos, where he graduated with a Master's degree in 2012. He has taken part in group exhibitions in Ghana and Nigeria. Olumide's collaborations include an artist residency and Open Studios exhibition with Arthouse Contemporary (2016), American Nigerian Cultural Collaborative Project, US Consulate and Nike Art Gallery Lagos (2013), and Beyond Boundaries, Nubuke Foundation, Accra (2013). He is represented by SMO Contemporary Art, who curated his 3rd solo exhibition, Connecting the Dots (2018), as well as had his works shown at 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, London (2017), ART X Lagos (2017), and START Art Fair (2018).

Biography : CHIBUIKE UZOMA (born 1992) is a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting, photography, drawing, and text. Uzoma references contemporary politics in Africa and the Diaspora and questions popular culture against the backdrop of religious and ethnic conflict, by asking “maybe we know nothing?” He is beginning his Master’s of Fine Arts degree at Yale University Fall of 2019, and graduated from the University of Benin in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in painting. He has taken part in projects, exhibitions, and artist residencies in Nigeria, South Africa, Vienna, France, India, and the United States. Chibuike creates visual poetry which reflects our universal struggle with identity in a fast changing universe. On closer scrutiny, his large canvases reveal layered conversations, arguments and self-portraits which he paints with colorful energetic abandonment. His bright bold abstract surfaces are punctuated by a critical analysis of the transience and complexity of relationships.
