Yong Rae Kwon

(South Korea 1964 -)

KWON Yong Rae uses the light as a form of energy that brings wonder and provide illusion through the process of reflecting and lingering in the canvas. His work is used by light itself, and it is a primary element that composes his work. The artist's recent works are made by cutting stainless steel plates and aluminum anodizing plates, but what is painted on them is not a pigment made by paints and brushes, but a illusion made of light and shadows reflected by metal sculptures. As soon as thousands of pieces of metal are attached to the wall and canvas, the cold iron properties disappear, and a hot and ecstatic illusion is created. The artist paints metal with stained glass technique, and the reflected light embodies the color and shines into the space.
