From the age of four, Nicklen was raised in a remote Inuit community on Baffin Island in Nunavut. Guided by the wisdom of his elders, he learned to survive in the extreme Arctic, developing a lifelong relationship with ice, wildlife, and polar environments—an experience that continues to inform both his artistic vision and his conservation work.
Nicklen has exhibited extensively in prestigious museums and galleries worldwide. His collectors include prominent figures from the worlds of film, music, and royalty. His art fair participation includes Photo London, Paris Photo, Intersect Aspen and Context Art Miami.
He continues to expand his global reach as a member of Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative and Sony Artisans of Imagery. In 2014, he co-founded the nonprofit SeaLegacy, dedicated to inspiring global action through compelling ocean storytelling. Nicklen has published six major volumes, and his photographs have been featured in more than 100 additional books worldwide.
