This work presents a contemporary reinterpretation of an enduring cultural icon, bringing a familiar hero into a new visual era. Drawing upon the traditions of classical painting and the techniques of the Old Masters, Joanna Morgan transforms a historical visual language through the lens of contemporary pop surrealism.

The work creates a deliberate dialogue between past and present: the recognizable figure becomes both a symbol of cultural memory and a character within today’s visual culture. Traditional multilayered glazing and painterly depth are reimagined through a bold, contemporary aesthetic, allowing the work to feel simultaneously familiar and unexpected.

Morgan’s approach celebrates the enduring power of iconic imagery while questioning how historical heroes are perceived in the modern world. The result is not simply a portrait of a familiar character, but a reflection on the way cultural symbols evolve, survive, and acquire new meanings across generations.
The result is a unique aesthetic synthesis the artist defines as Neo-Victorian Pop Surrealism.
