About

Established in 2014, Jade Flower Gallery began experimenting and developing the idea of 'imagination linking'. This concept reflects the gallery's goal to make links between the imagination of the artists, collector and the audience. Jade flower gallery is driven by the belief that artworks have an invaluable language that helps us understand the world surrounding not only the artists but also collector and the audience.
For CONTEXT Art Miami, Jade Flower Gallery is delighted to present YANG Okkyung's works, which are great examples of this “imagination linking” idea.

About the Artist

My work explores the space of “between” — between land and sea, memory and migration, stillness and movement. Through recurring motifs of turtles, flowers, waves, and organic patterns, I construct layered environments where boundaries dissolve and coexistence becomes possible.
The sea turtle functions as a symbolic traveler inhabiting multiple worlds. Moving fluidly across ecosystems, it embodies transition, resilience, and interconnectedness. Surrounding the turtle, floral structures and wave patterns merge into one another, creating visual fields that resist fixed categories. Warm yellows and cool blues operate not as oppositions, but as relational energies existing in continuous dialogue.
Inspired by the theme between / بين, this work approaches the “between” not as an empty gap, but as an active and generative space. It is a place where identities remain fluid, where difference can coexist without resolution, and where transformation emerges through encounter.
By combining decorative repetition with organic movement, I seek to create immersive spaces that invite contemplation of interdependence — between human and nature, tradition and contemporaneity, personal memory and collective imagination.
Ultimately, the work proposes “between” as a condition of becoming: a space to inhabit rather than to overcome.
