Osvaldo Mariscotti The Valley VI

Francine Tint Between the Temples

About the Artist

This is part of a very limited series of Valley paintings that reference back to Osvaldo Mariscotti's earlier impressionist landscape paintings he did in his youth. Here, the artist combines his signature, structural color-blocking, painted by pallet knife. Each strategically placed block of color implies a tree trunk or branches, and the undulating lines of color, hills in the background. The yellow orb to the right denotes a sense of a sun. This series of paintings continue to explore the artist's interplay between abstracted horizontal stripes and vertial figures, while also using colored bands as a vehicle for movement, light, and atmosphere.
Between the temples was included in Francine Tint's recently produced documentary on her life and art. It features the artist's signature chartreuse pigment with an indelible color pallet, showcasing the artist's physical practice of painting. The swooping paint application and clumps of purple pigment showcases Tint's active gestures, creating a sort of spiritual engagement with the process of painting applied on canvas.
