Kathrin Longhurst's high-realist, figurative painting practice intentionally transforms difficult encounters of oppression and adversity into powerful and positive messages of hope and change. Having grown up in former communist East Germany, Longhurst's family escaped to Sweden when she was 15. The experience of this displacement, compounded by the jarring contrast between living within a totalitarian regime and that of a Western capitalist democracy was the spark that ignited Longhurst's enduring commitment to issues of social justice and freedom of speech.
Having travelled extensively throughout Europe and Asia before finally settling in Australia, Longhurst possesses a unique understanding of human rights issues, the role of women and girls in society, as well as a keen awareness of the seductive power of advertising and the media. Her skilfully rendered images of women in states of defiant self-awareness layer themes of sexuality, propaganda and body image stereotypes to deconstruct and reassess the mechanisms at play within a given society. ‘Propaganda is all around us. It’s not specific to a period of time, a country or a regime…it’s everywhere’. This ingrained knowledge of political conditioning overtly operates within much of Longhurst's visual language and is the driving force behind her passion to use art to question, challenge and reinvent the ethics and values of today's contemporary culture.

Erica Calardo is a figurative painter living and working in Italy. Her works in oils, watercolors, and pencils are windows on the solitude of lost souls. She explores the realm of Beauty, Grotesque, and Magic, by creating eery oneiric feminine figures who tell tales of long forgotten dreams, of an imaginary timeless past.
Deeply rooted in the Italian Tradition, her technique is inspired by the Renaissance and Mannerism old masters (Leonardo, Bronzino, and Lavinia Fontana above all). She is mostly self-taught and has learned her skills from old dusty books. She has recently studied academic painting with Italian master Roberto Ferri.
Since 2010, she has showcased her work in galleries in Italy (Mondo Bizzarro, Studio21), and abroad (La Luz de Jesus - LA, Auguste Clown - Australia, Modern Eden, Swoon, Flower Pepper, WWA, and Spoke Art, Distinction - USA, Pinkzeppelin - Berlin among others). Erica's paintings have appeared in several magazines and books, like Miroir Magazine, Beautiful Bizarre, Il Manifesto, Inside Art, Italian Pop Surrealism, Illustrati.
Before devoting her life to painting, she got a phd in mathematical logic and worked as an academic researcher for a decade. She is in love with ancient castles, old christmas postcards, memento mori from the Victorian Age, logic, history of art, four poster beds, baroque clothing, fairy tales, mirrors, harpsichords, ghost stories, and punk rock.
Sam Peralta is a conceptual artist whose work merges his award-winning poetry and visual art using a human-machine symbology. His Augmented Visions series embeds poetry onto a visual composition using QR code. Each art piece can be appreciated as an mechanistic twist on neoplasticism; the works have the discipline of De Stijl, the modernist movement spearheaded by such artists as Piet Mondrian.
Viewed through the lens of any smartphone camera, however, built-in software reveals a hidden meaning transforming the artwork into something more, a revelation: the work’s title and the decoded lines of verse form a complete and evocative poem.
Trained as a physicist, Peralta’s previous artistic experiments – using Markov algorithms as the basis for generative art, or a human-AI collaboration in poetry – have evolved into this symbiosis of art, poetry, and augmented reality. It raises questions about meaning in art when it depends not just on human perception, but also on a level of reality accessible only via machine.
For Michael Van Zeyl, portraiture is much more than a one-sided translation of the artist’s point of view taking form in a subject. It’s an engaging visual dialogue that renders a soul in light, shadow and pigment, continuing the conversation for future generations to appreciate.
While subtle observation and technical skill are only part of Michael’s gift, his experience has honed his craft to understanding the language of painting. His
talents were apparent by age seven and he spent subsequent decades mastering a wide range of painting techniques. In particular, 17th century Dutch and 19th century impressionist styles have resonated with him and surfaced in his own works.
His formal training began at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, continuing on at Chicago’s Historic Palette & Chisel Academy and the Art Students League in New York, where he studied with the most accomplished artists who also paint directly from life under natural light. Michael is currently a faculty and board member at the Palette & Chisel and has been the club’s most popular instructor for several years.
Michael’s work is already appreciated in many public and private collections, such as the United States District Court, University of Chicago, DePaul University School of Law, Chicago Theological Seminary and American Hotel Register. He has received awards from the Portrait Society of America, The Artists Guild, the Oil Painters of America and the 2014 recipient of the Dorothy Driehaus Mellin Fellowship for Midwestern Artists.
Heather Brunetti is an American figurative artist best known for her moody oil portraits and depictions of human sentiment with big impact. Heather’s paintings often include intense detail and photorealistic textiles, though in recent works she has been experimenting with a bolder more expressive style. Heather was born in Cincinnati, OH and now lives and paints out of Louisville, KY.
Heather Brunetti depicts moody characters from all walks of life. Her subjects show emotion and depth; they are characters that invite the viewer to ponder their situations, sometimes painted with a hint of satire. Brunetti’s portraits often contain effects of depth and perspective giving them a feeling of occupying true space. Paying close attention to detail and painting textiles with high realism, her paintings are a playground for the eye.

Terry Strickland’s realistic, contemporary figure and still life paintings begin with personal inspirations and narratives that she translates using oil paint into universal stories. She has seen first hand how art, particularly realistic figurative work has the power to foster empathy in those viewing it and creating it.
Terry's work is playful and poignant as she explores life’s transitions, change, and themes of light and love. Concepts are revealed as she and her models play dress-up allowing costumes to reveal truth.
Amy Ordoveza is a contemporary realist artist who creates detailed, imaginative still-life paintings. She carefully crafts and arranges the delicate cut-paper plants, animals, and architectural elements that she depicts in her oil paintings. Her compositions evoke a sense of beauty and mystery in ordinary surroundings.
Ordoveza received her MFA from the New York Academy of Art and her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her historical influences include 17th century Dutch still life painters including Rachel Ruysch and Jan Davidsz de Heem as well as surrealists such as Kay Sage and René Magritte.
