Established in 2014, Jade Flower Gallery began experimenting and developing the idea of 'imagination linking'. This concept reflects the gallery's goal to make links between the imagination of the artists, collector and the audience. Jade flower gallery is driven by the belief that artworks have an invaluable language that helps us understand the world surrounding not only the artists but also collector and the audience.
For CONTEXT Art Miami, Jade Flower Gallery is delighted to present YANG Okkyung's works, which are great examples of this “imagination linking” idea.
YANG Okkyung artist is the first artist who developed Marker Art, and is considered a pioneer of this artistic craft.
In her artworks series of works, YANG Okkyung artist explores language and the diversity of multi universe through the use of color and delicate ink strokes.
YANG　Okkyung artist's recent works continues to explore multiple themes such as 'Big data', 'Hologram Cosmology' and ‘Under the Galaxy’.

About the Artist

YANG Okkyung artist is the first painter who uses marker in the painting genre and give the naming ‘Marker Art’ on 2012.
Artist YANG Okkyung will go down in art history as a painter who pioneered a new genre called Maker Art.
She majored in painting at Korea University and law at Yonsei University and also majored in painting at Hongik University Graduate School.
Ten years after she got married, she started studying on her own and entered university two years later.
This is artist's statement.​
The basis of the academic theory of my works is based on the hologram cosmology like a multi universe. I had the same imagination as this theory since elementary school. When I first met with his theory as an adult, I was very happy.
I sticks together liquid glue by Japan on mulberry paper and silk that is my artworks process.
From Chosun dynasty carp symbolizes success and achievement, the tortoise means of longevity and same flowers mean multi universes.
My artworks has multiple perspectives. Many of them have view from above and side view. For that reason, you may look unique, special and unfamiliar with my paintings.

Subject Description from ‘Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism’ :
The One Pillar Gate, which is called "Iljumun" or "Sanmun" in Korean, is the first gate to encounter when visiting mountain temples. The One Pillar Gate is named after the fact that its pillars are lined up in one straight line. It symbolizes entering the temple with a oneness of mind toward the world of truth while putting aside worldly desires.
It is considered a boundary between the secular and the Dharma world, and is the first gateway which crosses from “this shore” to the “other shore.”
I am interested in see and take the architecture photos, and want to show you images that with my own perspective and various ways of expression. It will compose with past - modern - contemporary period and these works are belong to past period.
I concerned for old architectures in Korea, and nationwide temples are the representative ones. Among the temple’s component, I felt the presence of Iljumun(One Pillar Gate), so I took many photos that focused in the ceiling part of Iljumun, is the first gate to encounter when visiting mountain temples nationwide.
Every temples’ Iljumun, its meanings are the same. But its colors, patterns and constructions are all different. I think it is the interesting factor. Each Iljumun has various expression of Dancheong (traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden buildings) and decoration such as dragon and many more.
It’s original intention is special. When you pass the Iljumun, It differentiate your world before and after in the boundary of each temple. It means your secular society and (another) Bhudda’s World. And it also means ordinary world and the next world. and even if you don’t know its meanings, but it has orientalic beauties itself.
